More than $12 million has been invested in Noarlunga Hospital to build new facilities and improve surgical services for the South, ensuring the community can receive care closer to home.
This includes a new Day Surgery Unit with two new operating theatres, a new Renal Dialysis Unit and dedicated spaces for children and families in the Emergency Department.
The Noarlunga Hospital Community Emergency Department will continue to provide emergency care to the local community, including assessing and treating adult and paediatric patients, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Dedicated spaces for children and families have been developed in the Emergency Department, aimed at making children feel more comfortable.
Noarlunga Hospital is now the centre for same-day and 23-hour surgery for the southern suburbs, ensuring patients have improved access to elective surgery.
A new Day Surgery Unit has recently been completed which includes two new operating theatres and a first stage recovery area, bringing the total number of procedural areas to six. The new unit also includes a second stage recovery area, which will increase from eight to 12 chairs.
The improvements will enable Noarlunga Hospital to increase the number of surgical procedures provided at the hospital. In line with international best models of care, some procedures that were previously provided as overnight or multi-day surgery can now be provided as day surgery, ensuring patients do not stay in hospital for longer than needed and can return home sooner.
Patients undergo 5,000 dialysis treatments each year at Noarlunga Hospital. The new Renal Dialysis Unit at Noarlunga Hospital includes nine renal dialysis chairs, a waiting area, bathroom facilities and personal storage spaces to provide greater comfort and privacy for patients and their families. The renal unit has increased from eight to nine chairs.
Enhanced outpatient services will be provided at Noarlunga Hospital, supporting patients in the South.
Mental health services will continue to be provided at Noarlunga Hospital including a 20-bed acute inpatient service, intermediate care, rehabilitation services and community teams.
Sub-acute inpatient services with a focus on older persons will be provided at Noarlunga Hospital.
